Ron Meulenkamp came from two sets down and one leg in the next set to claim a brilliant win over Diogo Portela who looked like he would claim a big win against 'The Bomb' who has shown good form so far this year especially on the European Tour.

In terms of statistics it was a 93 average for him with eight 180's in a brilliant performance and comeback for the Dutchman who moves through to Round Two. Portela who was not favourite to claim the win romped to the first set three-nil including a brilliant 92 checkout on the way. This included him claiming the set in the final leg with a 180 and 177 en route. Despite a 180 from Meulenkamp, Portela continued his brilliant start pinning a 45 checkout to go one up in set two. He doubled his lead smashing in a 72 checkout to hold his throw and go one away from a two set advantage. Meulenkamp clawed a leg back but it was only to hold throw. He missed darts to break and Portela punished to go two up. 'Brazilliant' went to the front once again hitting a 90 checkout to hold his throw. Meulenkamp finally grabbed another leg, only his second of the match to go 1-1. He continued his comeback by breaking the throw of Portela with a 124 checkout on the bull and now he was throwing for the set. 'The Bomb' followed a 12 darter with a 13 darter to claim the set and a real lifeline in the context of the match. In the next set, both players held their throws but Portela should have gone one away but missed dart after dart on double 20. Meulenkamp hit a seventh 180 and after Portela missed darts to hold throw, he pinned Double 13 to claim the set and send it to a decider. He was getting stronger and stronger and after more missed darts, Meulenkamp broke the throw of the Brazillian to go ahead for the first time. Portela thought he'd missed his opportunity to break but second time around he completed the job. ‘The Bomb’ though went back into pole position going one away with a break of throw. Meulenkamp completed the job hitting double three with his last dart in hand. for more information about the PDC World Darts Championship, including schedules and the prize fund breakdown.
