Netherlands have avoided a huge scare as they look to defend their World Cup of Darts title. They edged out Canada in a pairs decider but they will face Republic of Ireland in the last semi-final tonight.
The scare came from Dawson Murschell who throughout the tournament has really played the captain's role and he showed that as he dispatched Michael van Gerwen in a shock 4-2 win.
Van Gerwen asserted control in the early going with a 2-0 lead and a break of throw. Murschell responded well taking out 72 to break back and reduce it to 2-1.
MVG started to falter on the doubles and the Canadian took out tops to level up at 2-2. He broke the throw again with a 47 checkout to move to the brink.
'Awesome Dawson' faltered in the end on the doubles but as did Van Gerwen and Murschell picked up probably the biggest win of his career.
It was all up to Jermaine Wattimena and Jim Long from here and 'Machine Gun' who has played brilliantly in this tournament so far started well going into a 2-0 lead.
Long responded to halve the deficit and keep himself in the contest. Wattimena though moved to the brink landing double 16 for a 3-1 lead.
Long stayed alive with a brilliant 96 checkout with him hitting a D18-tops combination. It was Wattimena though who came through the match to send it into a pairs decider.
Netherlands took first blood with a 13 darter to go 1-0 up and ask the question of the Canadians. They responded with a 5 (T1-D1) combination but Van Gerwen hit a 64 checkout to go back in front.
From there they broke the throw with a 13 darter to go one away and they made no mistake going through and surviving a mighty scare.
