It all starts off with a clash of players trying to get their form back on track and succeeding in doing so at times in 2018, Dave Chisnall and Mark Webster. Gerwyn Price who could be playing in a protective boot on stage has said he’ll play on despite him being a few weeks away from being fully recovered. He will face Jan Dekker at the German Darts Championship who will be wary of that and will hope to use it to his advantage.
Stephen Bunting has been winning a few local opens but is back on the
European Tour and faces a tough test in a specialist of sorts on the tour, Ron Meulenkamp. It is a battle between the Bullet and the Bomb.
Joe Cullen next of all will hope to use the form he exhibited at the World Matchplay but he knows he will have a tough test in Josh Payne as he searches for an elusive European Tour title.
Daryl Gurney hasn’t had the best of times since his brilliant Premier League. He will face Darren Johnson, as his defence of his World Grand Prix gets closer he will want to show some form starting this weekend.
In one of the ties of the round, Michael Smith will face Krzysztof Ratajski. Smith has been one of the form players in darts this year; but as the World Series showed sometimes he is vulnerable early. Ratajski has already played one game and could find himself through to the final day of action.
Steve Beaton is one of the most well liked dart players but even he won’t have the majority of the crowd on side in his match. ‘The Bronzed Adonis’ faces the last home nation hope, Martin Schindler.
Finally, Simon Whitlock who has shown some form as of late will hope to use that as he faces the Austrian, Michael Raztovits.
Coverage starts at 12pm as the field gets whittled down in two bumper sessions in Hildesheim.
