Van Gerwen US Darts Masters

The PDC holds its second staging of the new US Darts Masters in Las Vegas this week with Michael van Gerwen aiming to defend his title. Also before that was the Las Vegas Desert Classic and the PDC have collated a list of the top five greatest moments in the tournaments.

Number five goes to Dawson Murschell who last year announced himself on a PDC stage with a win over James Wade. Wade had not been in the best form for some time but it was still a major scalp for ‘Awesome Dawson’. His reaction shows what the World Series is all about.

Fourth on the countdown came in the form of the first staging of the event. It saw some of the PDC’s best facing off with American qualifiers. Like a lot of tournaments though at that point Phil Taylor won the first ever title, beating Ronnie Baxter 3-0 in the final.
Third saw John Part claim the title back in 2006, three years after his World Championship triumph. He defeated Ronnie Baxter, Roland Scholten, Terry Jenkins and Wes Newton on the way to the final before he dispatched Raymond van Barneveld 6-3. It was also a landmark moment as it was the first staging at Mandalay Bay which is where the tournament is still held today.
Second in the list was Phil Taylor making it a fourth Desert Classic win posting averages of 100 or more in all but one match en route and then hitting a 105 average in seeing off James Wade in the final. Taylor in his true fashion won the title five out of eight times it was staged.
Finally Number One saw Michael van Gerwen complete an 8-6 win over Daryl Gurney as the tournament returned to Las Vegas. He did it in true MVG fashion only dropping one leg en route and he will be back this week to try to defend his title.
