Phil Taylor starts final World Championship campaign with a win as he overcomes Chris Dobey

Phil Taylor is through to Round 2 of the World Championship after defeating Chris Dobey and will play the winner of Justin Pipe vs Xiao Chen Zong or Bernie Smith.
Taylor though was pushed by the Bedlington ace who came from 2 sets down and missed two set darts in order to force a decider which proved fatal as 'The Power' turned it on to win though and survive a scare against the Gary Anderson mentored player who despite losing 3-1 in sets was in every set and really made a good account of himself against the 16 times World Champion.
Taylor himself averaged 96 compared to Dobey's 91 as 'The Power' unlike Van Gerwen has not stunned anyone with his averages as of yet and will be understandably saving his best depending on how far he goes.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
