Michael van Gerwen continued his incredible start to 2018 at the weekend. Mighty Mike has competed in six events, barring the Premier League, and has won five of them. Players Championship 1 and 2 were the next titles to go van Gerwen's way during a stellar spell in Barnsley. First, the Dutchman
defeated James Wade 6-4. Then he
thrashed Corey Cadby 6-1 to seal the honours at PC2. The £20,000 earned across two days puts him top of the Players Championship Order of Merit.
Cadby sits second, having earned £6,500, with Wade in third. Ian White and Ryan Joyce's consistency means the pair are level in fourth. Familiar faces in Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis follow the pair. But it was not a great weekend for all the big names. Joe Cullen, Justin Pipe, Vincent van der Voort, Mark Webster, Zoran Lerchbacher and Richard North all had poor weekend. They, along with 25 others, failed to win any money in Barnsley. Peter Wright, Jelle Klaasen and Dimitri van den Bergh were among those who picked up one win and £500.
