Ricky Evans is a couple of steps away from the World Championships after a 5-3 win over Josh Payne. 'Rapid' Ricky, who stunned Simon Whitlock at the Ally Pally two years ago, defeated the World Youth finalist in Milton Keynes, and retains hopes of reaching three successive championships. Chris Quantock's fine run continued as he beat Welshman Barrie Bates 5-3, while Jeffrey de Graaf sealed his quarter-final spot by seeing off Jim Walker.
A classy 170 checkout sealed a 5-1 win for Brendan Dolan, who saw off the challenge of Alan Tabern. Ron Meulenkamp was pushed all the way by Nathan Aspinall, but prevailed 5-4. Ted Evetts' hopes are also still alive; he beat Luke Woodhouse 5-3. David Pallett won by the same scoreline against Mark Dudbridge, and Jamie Lewis rounded off the quarter-final lineup with a 5-4 win over Mick McGowan.
