Ross Montgomery who is currently ranked number 5 in the BDO ranking system will be making his debut at the Wolves Civic next month as part of the Grand Slam of Darts, the cross code event which pits PDC vs BDO and he is eyeing the two-time world champion Michael van Gerwen in the group stages.
'The Boss' who recently won the British Open and pairs title with Scott Mitchell as part of the week of the Winmau World Masters is in good form and previously faced off against Michael and beat him 11 years ago but has said in an interview with the Daily Record, that he doesn't mind who he plays also mentioning Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson and called the invitation an honour.
“It would be nice to play Michael" said Montgomery "I haven’t played him since he was 17 when I beat him at the Scottish Open, but that was a very long time ago and he’s 100 times better now, obviously.
“He’d just won the Winmau World Masters at that age as well, so you could tell he was going to be good"
“I’m really looking forward to playing with the professionals. Hopefully I’ll play one of the biggest names in the sport.
“The likes of Adrian Lewis or Gary Anderson would be good as well.
“To get the invitation to this event is an honour. I’ve had lots of advice on how to cope with it but I think I’ll just go out and play my own game and see where it takes me.
“Whoever I get it will be difficult. These guys play darts for a living but I have a day job to go to so you can’t put in the kind of time and practice these guys do.”
