Taylor produces comeback to defeat Anderson

Phil Taylor came back from 4-2 down to beat crowd favorite Kyle Anderson, as Simon Whitlock also progressed in Perth.
The first three legs of the Taylor-Anderson match went against throw as Anderson took a 2-1 lead. 'The Original' then became the first player to hold his leg by hitting double twelve in leg four, and two further holds of throw saw the scoreline become 4-2 to the advantage of the Australian. After reducing the gap to just one leg, Taylor crucially pounced in leg eight to draw level after Anderson had missed a dart at tops to lead 5-3. Another important dart at double sixteen was missed by the Auckland Darts Masters champion, and the sixteen-time world champion proceeded to take the next final two legs and triumph 6-4.
Whitlock became the first Australian player through to the quarter-finals with a 6-2 win over his fellow countryman Justin Thompson. Thompson kicked off with a 140 followed by a maximum and missed three darts at doubles before finally taking the first leg. Doubles would prove to be a consistent problem for the qualifier, as he ended up with a checkout percentage of just 11,11%. After Whitlock had reeled off three consecutive legs to lead 3-1, Thompson hit his second and final double of the game to get back to just one leg. Unfortunately for the underdog, the pattern continued as 'The Wizard' took three legs in a row to win the match.
