Thonrton hits the ground running in victory over Dolan

Robert Thornton rolled back the years to produce a classy display in seeing off Brendan Dolan at the World Championships.
In previous years this match up may have appeared as late as the Quarter-Finals, such is the pedigree of both men. However a decline in form for both ensured it was a first round match up.
The pair didnt dissapoint taking out countless 100+ finishes, both finishing with over 55% checkout success.
SET 1 (Thornton 3-2Dolan)
A high class affair in which both players averaged over 100 in holding there throws. Thornton showing his class in the decider. and 11 darter against throw wrapping up the set. The Soct finishing the set with an average just shy of the 114 mark.
SET 2 (Thornton 0-3 Dolan)
It was a set all about the finishes as The History Maker took all 3 legs with ton plus outs. The first leg 126 after thornton had missed d20 for a 117 of his own. Leg 2 saw a 104 finish. Dolan clinical in his 15 dart leg, before securing the set with a straight 100 out. 3 perfect finsihes in the leg, and a 100% double success rate in the match at the end of set 2.
SET 3 (Thornton 3-2 Dolan)
Thonrton managed 2 13 dart legs against the throw to help him in this one. The high finishing continued to begin, Thornton getting in on the action with a 144. The Thorn also threw 3 180's on his way to the 3rd set.
SET 4 (Thornton 3- 2Dolan)
Thonrton, as in his previous 2 sets, takes the 5th and deciding leg. Wrapping up the match 3-1. Another 13 dart leg from the Scotsman sealed the victory. A 4th perfect d12 in the match including the final dart.
Thornton now faces Mensur Suljovic or Kevin Painter in the second round.
