Van Barneveld was playing in front of a home crowd but despite that lost 7-1 to an in form Superchin.
Barney started well including holding his throw but was soon in the dust against Gurney.
Gurney marched into a 5-1 lead quite quickly and this meant it was too much of a mountain to climb for the Dutch legend.
In the end, the multiple World Champion and Premier League winner bows out with a whimper and will have one final homecoming tomorrow in Rotterdam.
