Dimitri Van den Bergh has marked a dream debut at the World Matchplay by seeing off Nathan Aspinall in a 10-5 victory.
Van den Bergh hit a 98.5 average en route to seeing off one of the favourites for the title in Aspinall and become the last player through to the second round.
Van den Bergh led proceedings 3-2 at the first break and from there he was 5-2 up with a break putting Aspinall at the point of no return potentially at 6-2.
Aspinall had a lifeline as he survived three missed darts at doubles and pegged it back to 6-3 behind.
DvdB went 7-3 up though to dispel that hitting a 103 checkout, the turning point was to come with Aspinall missing double 20 for a 157 checkout and ‘The Dreammaker’ returned to smash in a 156 checkout to make it 8-4.
He dismissed a 180 from Aspinall and went 9-4 up concluding it from there 10-5 to mark a dream debut.
