Van Gerwen avoids exit with fantastic comeback against Whitlock

Michael van Gerwen produced a fantastic comeback against Simon Whitlock to reach the semi-finals at the Melbourne Darts Masters.

The Dutchman was on the brink of a defeat, when Whitlock came 8-4 up. The Australian Ace hit 152, 120 en 170 checkouts to take four-leg lead over Van Gerwen.
Van Gerwen hit a 12-dart and 15-dart leg to reduce the deficit to 8-7. 'The Wizard' had the chance to take a 9-7 lead, but missed four darts on the doubles. The world number one took out double 19 to level the match at 8-8.
In the 17th leg, Whitlock missed another three doubles and was punished again by Van Gerwen, who hit double 1 to lead 9-8. 'Mighty Mike' then took out double 5 to complete his comeback.
