Michael van Gerwen denied Vincent van der Voort a chance to qualify for the European Championship as 'Mighty Mike' beat his 'best man' at the European Darts Trophy.
Van der Voort missed three darts to lead 2-0, which was punished by Van Gerwen who claimed his first leg with double 1. The world number one stormed into a 4-1 lead with a 13- and 11-dart leg, before 'Fast Vinnie' hit a 12-dart leg to reduce the deficit. Then Van Gerwen took out 90 and tops to seal the win over his compatriot.
Peter Wright went through after booking his first time over Peter Wright in more then five years. 'The Cobra' ended his losing streak of twelve matches with a 6-3 victory. James Wade reached the final day of the European Darts Trophy as 'The Machine' beat Toni Alcinas 6-4 with nearly 102 average.
