William O'Connor is through to play at Alexandra Palace in the World Championships for the first time after winning the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay against Jason Cullen on the Citywest stage.
A fixture in the calendar that usually sees Mick McGowan confirm his spot at the World's, this year it was the turn of the PDC tour card holder who took a gamble in trying to qualify for this final and forfeiting his PDPA Qualifier rights as a result if he lost.
Cullen started off well including hitting a 160 checkout to start off with but despite missing 7 match darts before finally hitting D8, O'Connor pulled away from his opponent winning 6-4 to win the title and secure his spot at Alexandra Palace in a good way to start before the match between Simon Whitlock and Daryl Gurney in the World Grand Prix final from 8pm.
