The World Matchplay starts shortly and there have been changes for 2018. These include the format of the games changing from best of 21 to best of 25 legs for the second round.

This in itself means a longer format from the very beginning favouring players like Michael van Gerwen who get stronger as it gets longer. It could also cut down the likelihood of shocks in the World Matchplay this year leading to the best players getting to the latter stages of the tournament. First Round - Best of 19 legs Second Round - Best of 21 legs Quarter-Finals - Best of 31 legs Semi-Finals - Best of 33 legs Final - Best of 35 legs UPDATE: The format for the World Matchplay . The PDC made a typing error on their website, which has been amended.
