Jeffrey de Zwaan is stepping into politics alongside his darts career. He will serve as the new list pusher for the political party Hart voor Den Haag. Party leader Richard de Mos stated that together they want to make The Hague the “darts capital” of the Netherlands, and possibly even host a Premier League night.
De Zwaan hails from a smaller town just outside The Hague called Rijswijk, where he was born and raised. The capital of South Holland is home to several elite darters. Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld also comes from there.
With his appointment as list pusher, De Zwaan is following in Van Barneveld’s footsteps. “Barney” previously appeared on the party’s candidate list as well. At the time, Van Barneveld and De Mos pushed hard for the development of darts in the city. The party leader now plans the same with De Zwaan. However, it is not yet exactly known what “The Black Cobra” will do for Hart voor Den Haag.
Premier League to The Hague?
In the Facebook post where the collaboration between the party and De Zwaan was officially announced, De Mos also stated that he wants to bring an international darts event to The Hague. A
Premier League Darts night is high on the list in particular. The Netherlands already hosts one Premier League night each year, but it is always at Ahoy in Rotterdam. De Mos hopes that in the future it can also be held in The Hague. “Such an event would not only put the city on the map, but also give a huge boost to hospitality, tourism, and the sporting experience.”
Hart voor Den Haag therefore hopes that appointing De Zwaan as list pusher can help turn that ambition into reality. “Darts is popular culture and elite sport at the same time. If we want The Hague to become the darts capital of the Netherlands, then you need to give darts pubs room to thrive and show ambition. With
Jeffrey de Zwaan as list pusher, we show that we mean it,” the post concluded.
