The International Darts Open in Riesa last weekend was the 100th tournament in the history of the PDC
European Tour. This circuit was founded in 2012 and has since expanded to thirteen tournaments a year.
Gerwyn Price beat
Michael van Gerwen in the final of the International Darts Open, but perhaps 'Mighty Mike' would have been a more appropriate winner for this anniversary edition.
For a long time, Van Gerwen was considered "Mr Euro Tour," especially in the period 2015 through 2018. In this period, 44 Euro Tour tournaments were played, no less than 25 of which were won by the Dutchman. Of the hundred Euro Tour tournaments played, 35 were won by Van Gerwen, who also lost ten finals. So in almost half of all Euro Tour tournaments Van Gerwen was in the final.
Gerwyn Price is number two on the perennial winner's list after last weekend. 'The Iceman' now stands at eight Euro Tour titles, one more than Peter Wright. Michael Smith follows with five Euro Tour titles, while Dave Chisnall, Luke Humphries and Phil Taylor have four.
Mensur Suljovic, Ian White and Joe Cullen each stand on two Euro Tour final wins, while Kim Huybrechts and James Wade were victorious twice. Simon Whitlock, Mervyn King, Steve Beaton, Justin Pipe, Gary Anderson, Jonny Clayton, Adrian Lewis, José de Sousa, Damon Heta, Max Hopp, Jamie Hughes, Wes Newton, Alan Norris, John Part, Krzysztof Ratajski, Devon Petersen, Robert Thornton, Raymond van Barneveld and Vincent van der Voort all won one.
In total, 32 different players managed to win a Euro Tour tournament. These came from 12 different countries: The Netherlands, Scotland, Wales, England, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Canada, South Africa and Poland.
By the way, Rob Cross is the player with the most second places without any Euro Tour title. 'Voltage' lost all of his seven finals.
