Gerwyn Price reigns in Riesa again with 'The Iceman' picking up the
International Darts Open for the fourth time and not only back-to-back titles in a happy hunting ground for the Welshman but also on the
European Tour after winning last week in Leverkusen.
Price eased past
Michael van Gerwen 8-4 in the final who could not withstand the barrage with a 105 average, four 180's and 42.1% on the doubles in victory from the former. The purple patch firmly continues.
Van Gerwen missed 164 on the bull for a hold and Price hit back with a 134 checkout using two double 20’s. Both couldn’t get onto the nine-dart finish but started perfect on Price’s throw but it was a 2-0 lead for ‘The Iceman’.
He missed 116 for a 3-0 lead but Van Gerwen squandered two darts to hold. Only for Price to miss three darts to seal a double break and MVG made it 2-1.
MVG missed the bull with a 124 spurned and Price returned to miss 110 allowing MVG another chance but he was left chasing around the board and the Welshman hit double 20 to make it 3-1.
It was a fourth maximum for MVG but doubles continued to desert him and Price broke again at 4-1. A 76 checkout saw Price consolidate for 5-1.
An 84 checkout on double 11 saw Price go 6-1 up. Price missed 121 for a 7-1 lead and after leaving 42 after nine, he broke back at 6-2.
MVG missed more darts again though but received a reprieve with Price missing darts to go one away. Price finally went one away with a 54 checkout at 7-3.
Price had a leg off and Van Gerwen held at 7-4 and ‘The Iceman’ hit a 56 checkout for the win.
