Third round action is upon us at the Belgian Darts Championship which takes place in Hasselt with some bumper ties on the way in the schedule to help decide the Quarter-Finalists.
Kicking it all off is what many would call the tie of the round. Michael van Gerwen will face off against Michael Smith in a match that could go a long way to deciding the
Belgian Darts Championship winner.
Van Gerwen brushed off a shaky start against Mike de Decker to move through in a 6-3 win in a game which also included a
nine-dart finish missed to win it from the World Number One.
Smith on the other hand was superb in
brushing aside Ronny Huybrechts 6-1 which included in a 103 average and 50 percent on the doubles. 'Bully Boy' has carried his form into this weekend and will hope to battle past one of his main rivals.
Then it is the turn of Mervyn King who yesterday produced one of the displays of the day to defeat Glen Durrant. Despite that though, it is Martijn Kleermaker next who showed himself to be a classy operator in
victory over Joe Cullen - who was not at his best for most of their tie.
The former BDO star who is making his
European Tour debut will hope to make a lasting impression by reaching the final session of action in Hasselt but he has a tough test before getting there.
Wright, Ratajski and Van Duijvenbode set to headline
Three of the ties of the day follow this with a brilliant portion of mid session action. Peter Wright, the World Champion wasn't at his brilliant best yesterday but still
eased past Andy Hamilton. He has one of the top performers of the second round in Danny Noppert - who has been in exceptional form.
Speaking of exceptional form Krzysztof Ratajski will look to continue his when he faces Rob Cross. An impressive win over Gabriel Clemens saw the Polish Eagle progress yesterday; while for Cross it was
victory over Damon Heta where 'Voltage' eased through.
Then it is the double dutch dust up between Dirk van Duijvenbode and Jeffrey de Zwaan. DvdB in particular has impressed a lot of people with his darts as of late and has
reached the final day for the first time showing his progress. While he may have to up his game against his compatriot, it could be one to truly savour.
James Wade and Nathan Aspinall follow that. Wade has not been in great form as of yet this year especially for someone who wins as many titles as he does on the ProTour but eased past Steve Lennon to open his account.
Aspinall on the other hand put in one of the performances of the day to continue his personal rise against Steve Beaton
6-3 with a 98.7 average and 60 percent on the doubles. A match that could see one player blown away or through on fine margins, it'll definitely be one to watch.
As will Gerwyn Price against Jamie Hughes. Price was not at his best at all yesterday but didn't need to be against Wesley Plaisier with the Dutchman only having a 154 checkout as solace in their contest.
He next has 'Yozza' with the former European Tour winner defeating Dimitri van den Bergh
in front of his home crowd to head through. A player gaining a head of steam again but can he dispel the Iceman.
Finally Mensur Suljovic takes on Steve West. The former claimed an impressive win over Ryan Searle 6-4 with a 94 average, three 180s and two ton plus finishes.
West was equally impressive with 'Simply'
defying a 104 average from Jonny Clayton to claim victory with 75 percent on the doubles. A brilliant session awaits in Hasselt as we edge closer to deciding who will be the winner of the Belgian Darts Championship.
