The evening session is coming up shortly at the Belgian Darts Championship with some quality action coming up to end Day 1 in Hasselt.
To begin it all is Dirk van Duijvenbode against Luke Woodhouse. The former has been one of the top performers on the PDC ProTour this season showing a new lease of life after regaining his Tour Card at Q-School and he will get to bring potentially that form but at the very least his famous Walk On to the stage in Belgium.
He will take on the Bewdley ace who has not been getting the rub of the green this season and has played well only to have results go against him. The World Championship success story will hope that he can turn a corner this weekend and produce some of those darts which saw him touted as a player to watch this season.
Mike de Decker follows that against Ron Meulenkamp. De Decker will of course get to grace his home fans tonight against 'The Bomb' who has qualified for the opening two events; despite not playing his best darts yet on the ProTour where he usually does damage. Can 'The Real Deal' thrill his home fans, or will the Dutchman pay heed to those plans?
Callan Rydz will make his return to the
European Tour tonight against one of the top performers on the ProTour this season, Gabriel Clemens. The German without winning a PDC Title yet keeps reaching the latter stages of tournaments; with Semi-Finals and Quarter-Finals aplenty.
Rydz is going to make his first money this season at least by playing here after a torrid start to his first full season on the tour. The Bedlington ace though always has the tools to produce and he will hope so here against a very in-form player.
Speaking of in-form, the same can be said for Danny Noppert, alongside Gabriel Clemens he is making latter stages of nearly every tournament he competes in. He faces another familiar Belgian in Geert de Vos who despite not playing that often for the past few years is a quality operator and has the darts to match the best. A potential match of the night incoming.
Kim Huybrechts will also get his time on stage in front of his home fans. He takes on Ryan Harrington who came through the Associate Member Qualifier. 'The Hurricane' saw his brother Ronny win earlier against Luke Humphries and will hope some of that luck will rub off.
Former BDO World Championship participant Jeffrey van Egdom concludes a strong Belgian contingent and he will face off against Steve West.
'Simply's best runs this season have come to Last 32 in ProTour events meaning that he is not playing poorly and he is always quality on the stage so could ease through here.
Then the highest ranked Belgian, Dimitri van den Bergh will dance his way onto stage but he has a tough assignment himself to end the night.
In new PDC Tour Card holder and classy operator Derk Telnekes, a player acclimatised to the big stage he could shun the hopes of the partisan crowd ahead of a good run this weekend. Another top game to look out for.
