James Wade secured progression to the second round of the Baltic Sea Darts Open on Friday. 'The Machine' triumphed 6-2 over Niels Zonneveld averaging 99.92 in the process.
"About bloody time," Wade reflected on stage in his post-match interview afterwards. "I've been running into a brick wall of players playing well against me recently. I can still play darts, I've just had a bit of misfortune."
After his win over Zonneveld, Wade now has former Masters champion, Joe Cullen to deal with in the second round. After his win, the multiple major winner is high on confidence. "Things went well for me there because they haven't been going my way so it's all good," he smiles. "I probably should have got it over and done with sooner than I did, but I got the win."
With victory, Wade also moves into the provisional spots for the upcoming World Matchplay, a tournament he has been ever present at since 2006. "I'm very fortunate that I've been involved in darts for such a long time and I've done what I need to do in life. I'd love to be there and I think I should be there. I've given 20 years of my life to this game and a bit more. Some of us just want a break."
