Gian van Veen secured a place in the last 32 at the Baltic Sea Darts Open on Friday night by recording a 6-4 victory over Kevin Troppmann in the second round.

His German opponent still gave a strong counter after Van Veen was leading 4-1 after five legs. ''I was in front and I felt comfortable, even without playing well. I was 4-1 up like chilling, and all of a sudden it was four all. He played phenomenal. He took out the right shots at the right times, but luckily at four all I turned on and thankfully got the win.''

After Troppmann levelled the match, Van Veen managed to hit a 12-darter and a brilliant 11-darter to claim the win. ''I think I lost my focus a bit during the game, but it's a good sign. I knew what to do.''

In the second round 'GVV The Giant' will take on second seed Damon Heta. ''I love to play him in Europe. Not in the UK'', he smiled. ''But I think on the European Tour I beat him twice with a good average.''
