Alexis Toylo won two of the four tournaments during the PDC
Asian Tour tournament weekend in Singapore. This brought his number of Asian Tour titles to eight.
Toylo struck right away Saturday at Asian Tour 17, the first tournament of the weekend. He successively defeated Lihao Wen (4-0), John Louie Curacha (4-2), Takayuki Masatsu (4-1), Pupo Teng-Lieh (4-2), Mitsuhiko Ttsunami (4-3), Man Lok Leung (5-2) and John Marco Lumilang (5-3).
The Filipino darter made it to the final again later in the day, but ultimately had to settle for second place. At Asian Tour 18, the title went to Motomu Sakai, the leader of the Asian Tour Order of Merit. The Japanese won over Tenooth Sivalingam (4-3), Sze Heong Dave Tan (4-1), Cher Kai Ang (4-1), Christian Perez (4-2), Ryusei Azemoto (4-3) and Lourence Ilagan (5-4) to qualify for the final. Sakai then saw off Toylo (5-3) in the final.
On Sunday, Toylo reached his third final in a row. He brushed aside Yee Jiang Daryl Lim (4-1), Noel Malicdem (4-1), Yan Bin Chen (4-0), Altantulkhuur Myagmarsuren (4-3), Xiaochen Zong (4-1), Ryuta Arihara (5-1) and Christian Perez (5-1) to book his second title of the weekend.
Perez, however, managed to beat him in the last sixteen of Asian Tour 20, preventing Toylo from making the final for the first time this tournament weekend. Perez eventually went down in the semifinals against
Paul Lim.
Lim got to go up against Paolo Nebrida in the final, who was too strong for successively John Louie Curacha (4-3), Lihao Wen (4-3), Christopher Sarmiento Melo (4-2), Jemel Modesto (4-3), Chi-Jui Tseng (4-0) and Boldbaatar Bayarmagnai (5-3) to secure a spot in the final. Prior to his win over Perez, Lim also won over Leonard Chua (4-1), Jenn Ming Tan (4-2), Kym Dart Decena (4-0), Jhasfer Jhaf Doria (4-3) and Altantulkhuur Myagmarsuren (4-2).
In the final, Nebrida jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Lim made up the deficit by taking three legs in a row. Lim was just one leg away from his third Asian Tour title of the season, but Nebrida broke the Singaporean back with a 15-darter. The Filipino then struck in the deciding leg with a 16-darter to capture his first title of the year.
This title also puts Nebrida back in contention for World Darts Championship qualification. The top five on the Asian Tour Order of Merit may compete in this and Nebrida is now in seventh place.
Leading the list is Motomu Sakai with $11,050, followed by Alexis Toylo with $10,500. Some distance behind are Paul Lim ($9,900) and Man Lok Leung ($8250) in third and fourth place, respectively.
The last World Championship spot is virtually in the hands of Ryusei Azemoto, who currently stands at $6650. Keita Ono ($6450), Paolo Nebrida ($6250) and Lourence Ilagan ($5800) are the first pursuers.
