Peter Wright saw off Alex Spellman 6-5 in the opening round of the 2024
US Darts Masters as 'Snakebite' got the winning feeling again for the first time in a while. He now faces off against Gerwyn Price in the Quarter-Finals.
Wright watched as Spellman produced multiple huge finishes. 'Snakebite' hit a 100 checkout with his back against the wall. Wright spoke afterwards admitting that he has forgotten how to win and detailed the thoughts that go through his head as a result.
"I'm just happy winning the game and getting over the line to be honest. Just thrown a lot of games away in the last couple of months 6-4 or 6-5 so it's nice to get over the line. Hopefully I just forget what I've done the last couple of months and get on track and play like I can," said Wright to Online Darts.
"You feel great in the practice room and before you come out. But obviously when you go up there and you're under pressure you go oh no it's happening again what are you doing? All these stupid thoughts come into your head and you're thinking go away just focus on the game. It's just very difficult but hopefully I can change some things now."
The quality of Spellman though wasn't his luck coming back to bite him though in his opinion. He lauded the American CDC standout and said that he wasn't shocked about how well he was playing.
"Alex is a quality darts player and if he wants to take that step further he could easily do it. But he's got family, he used to be in the Forces. He doesn't want to do that but he'd enjoy setting up academies. He hit a nine-darter a month ago, he's been playing some fantastic darts. As soon as the draw came out I said I've got the hardest player I think personally in the draw. That's all I need. You saw the quality taking out the 150 and 167."
