Anderson comes from set down to breeze past Van Duijvenbode into World Championship semi-finals

Gary Anderson is the second player through to the semi-finals of the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after breezing past Dirk van Duijvenbode in a 5-1 sets win.

Anderson was potentially in trouble early on going a set down but from there was at his supreme best hitting his first ton plus average in 19 matches with six 180's and 50% on the doubles.

A bumper tie potentially awaits against Michael van Gerwen if he can get past Dave Chisnall this evening.

A 63 checkout saw Van Duijvenbode break Anderson’s throw to begin the tie as his average sat up towards 113 to begin the tie. Double 20 saw ‘The Titan’ go into a 2-0 lead as he went one away from an opening set lead.

Anderson got a leg on the board on double six but Van Duijvenbode took out 58 to claim the opening set 3-1.

Van Duijvenbode missed double 18 for a 116 to hold and Anderson was back for a 47 checkout for an early break after a 180.

A 177 from Anderson saw him get down to a finish but he missed a 48 checkout and Van Duijvenbode was back for a break back with the same target last dart in hand at double 16.

A 132 checkout was missed from Van Duijvenbode and Anderson stole it with a 58 checkout to go 2-1 up as his average went towards 105. He cleaned up the set from there to level it up.

A 24 checkout saw Anderson head in front, he broke on double nine to follow that up to go 2-0 up and towards a 2-1 sets lead.

Van Duijvenbode pressured with a 180 but Anderson was straight to the mark with double 20 to claim the set.

He left a 74 checkout but Anderson pinned a 127 to make it six legs on the bounce and heading to the front with a break in set four.

It was a double 180 from Anderson to leave double two which he pinned second dart in hand to head into a 2-0 lead. He missed double 14 for a 121 checkout but Van Duijvenbode couldn’t hit back with a 114 and Anderson pinned double seven to sweep the fourth and go 3-1 up.

A 60 checkout was pinned by Anderson as he led 1-0 with a hold and was still massively restricting ‘The Titan’. He went 2-0 up with a 131 checkout pinning two double 20’s.

A 180 saw Van Duijvenbode attempt a resurgence on the Anderson throw as he pinned an 83 checkout to break back. Anderson had his first potential slip missing three at 40 to claim the set but Van Duijvenbode couldn’t stop the rot on 59.

This allowed Anderson back to the board for double 10 which he pinned to make it 4-1. He broke on double eight to head into the lead in set six. He missed his opportunity though at a 64 checkout to lead 2-0 and Van Duijvenbode was back at a 109 checkout.

But the Dutchman held throw with a 60 checkout to go 2-1 ahead. A 70 checkout saw Anderson go one away from the win.

Van Duijvenbode hit 180 to leave five but Anderson breezed through double 20 to claim the victory.
