Anderson edges out O'Connor with 105 average, Van Gerwen storms past Lewis

The final group matches of the opening weekend of action at the Grand Slam of Darts are complete with Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen seeing off William O'Connor and Adrian Lewis respectively.

Anderson defeated O'Connor in a vintage performance which included a 105 average and 55 percent on the doubles as he moved top of group D.

Van Gerwen on the other hand in typical fashion reeled off five consecutive legs to defeat Lewis to set up a straight shootout between the latter and Jim Williams next week.

Anderson took the first leg of his tie with the Irishman but O'Connor ended up breaking straight back with a 158 checkout. O'Connor himself hit double 16 which saw him hit the front at 2-1 with a 106 average at the time.

He regained the lead at 3-2 up and was looking good but this is when Anderson came into his own. He hit a 124 checkout for a 12-darter and was sitting at 3-3.

He went one away breaking throw and from there sealed the deal as 'The Flying Scotsman' returned towards his best on the Wolverhampton stage.

It was a similar scenario between Van Gerwen and Lewis. 'Jackpot' took an early break and took out 80 to claim the opener and doubled his lead with a 73 checkout but three consecutive legs saw Van Gerwen clear.

He went even further clear at 4-2 up and in double quick time secured a win and progression through against his former rival.
