Chisnall reflected on his performance at the oche on day one at the Grand Slam of Darts and feels although he wasn’t throwing at his best, neither was his opponent, Luke Humphries, who after missing darts for the match, allowed Chisnall to escape with a close shave.
“To be fair, it wasn’t pretty. I wasn’t throwing well at all in practise this morning, I was flicking the darts instead of throwing them and I think he (Humphries) should’ve beaten me there easily because I thought that was rubbish from me.”
''I didn’t play at my best and I don’t think Luke did either. We both had darts at missed doubles and I think when I was 3-1 down, I had to make sure I dug in to come out the winner and that’s what I did.”
Chisnall also shared his thoughts on the opening rounds at major tournaments and explained how important getting off to a good start is in his group.
“It’s key to just make sure you get the win in the group games. It’s always nerve-racking, the first two games because it’s completely up to you to make sure you get through and get the points on the board.”
Talking about close shaves on the oche, ‘Chizzy’ spoke about them off the oche, as he was rocking a brand new trim for the Grand Slam and explained how four-time women’s world champion, Lisa Ashton, did it for him.
“I got my haircut done yesterday. Lisa Ashton did it for me. I let her do it in her room so all the mess was in her room so it was all good for me.”
