"I've always wanted to play at the Winter Gardens. It's going to be absolutely amazing. I just can't wait to get there now!" Lisa Ashton will be the top seed at next month's Women's World Matchplay, and she is relishing her Blackpool bow...
Lisa Ashton heads into the inaugural PDC Women's World Matchplay taking place on July 24 as top seed and the favourite alongside Fallon Sherrock to lift the title at the Winter Gardens.
Ashton keeps producing exceptional displays winning a Women's Series title everyday they have been played in a remarkable stat pointed out during her post final interview and 'The Lancashire Rose' at 51 says it's a message that no matter what age is not a barrier.
"I'm so happy, all I keep doing is just saying to myself all I can do is try my best but I'm happy, I'll keep going. Can't ask for anything better," said Ashton after the final.
"I'm showing there's no age. I know I'm one of the older ones, everybody needs to keep going and hopefully I'm showing everybody don't give in even at my age, anything is possible."
"I'm hoping I can go as long as I can, it's great for the youth coming through and I'm just happy I keep pushing everyone as much as I can."
But in terms of the Women's World Matchplay, it will be on home soil with Ashton likely to seal most of the fan support and she cannot wait for a local homecoming.
"It's another tick in the box, it's opportunity. It's in Lancashire. I've always wanted to play at the Winter Gardens. It's going to be absolutely amazing. I just can't wait to get there now!"
