Nathan Aspinall continued Mervyn King's European Championship woes with victory on Friday night in yet another major tournament when they faced off.
But this time it was Aspinall who finally got the rub of the green and moved through which he was delighted about despite admitting of course there is more to come.
"I'm very happy, if I was going to be deadly honest with you, at no point in that game did I think I was going to win. Me and Merv have had fantastic games this year, we've played each other pretty much in every single TV tournament but that was probably our worst game we played but I dug deep.
"I did the old school Nathan where I grind the result out which is something that I've not done for the last two years so I'm gonna take a lot of positives out of it.
"It wasn't my best performance but I'm dead happy to beat a fantastic player like Merv and get into the second round."
Not getting the luck
It hasn't been the best year for the former UK Open champion but part of that comes from not receiving the luck.
"I've been working hard and I've been playing fantastic and losing. The Krzysztof game in the World Grand Prix, take that last leg out of the equation I don't really think there's many better games and lost and I was going home. You look at Gibraltar, I think I averaged 104 for the tournament and didn't win, that's not right."
Return to Aspinall of old
He believes a return to his previous exploits is coming with his practice game seeing him back producing his best with a confidence booster just needed.
"I'm nearly there, obviously that was pretty poor tonight but I was dead nervous tonight and practicing I swear, I've never practiced like I practice."
"I'm playing phenomenal, I've got these new points in, I'm hitting so much 180's, it's frightening."
"The confidence I've got at the moment is unreal, I just need to get to a final to win something and I think if I can get even a ProTour in Barnsley or hopefully this. I reckon I'm going to kick start my career again, I'm not far away from no one wanting to play me again."
