Nathan Aspinall has continued his comeback from injury by reaching the Quarter-Finals of the International Darts Open in Riesa after dumping out defending champion and top seed, Joe Cullen 6-3.
Aspinall who admitted after his opener that he still wasn’t done with his treatment and has only just picked up his darts again recently in preparation for this after having since the World Championship off performed well against the in-form Rockstar.
He averaged 95 with three 180’s and 40% on the doubles to book his place in the final session where he will play a red-hot James Wade who played superbly in dispatching Kim Huybrechts 6-1.
It was another doubling masterclass from ‘The Machine’ with a 164 and 170 some of the champagne shots from the current UK Open champion with a 100 average, three 180’s and 66.7% on the doubles compared to a 101 average from the Belgian albeit with ¼ on the doubles as he only sealed one leg.
To begin in typical Wade fashion, he popped up with a 164 checkout to take a 2-0 lead with a break of throw. Huybrechts missed the chance to break back with a 75 checkout and Wade picked his pocket with an 82 checkout to go 3-0 up with a hold.
He hit another 180 and stole the throw of Huybrechts before smashing in a 170 checkout with the Belgian sat on 70 to break throw again and go 4-0 up.
He began his throw with another maximum with his average sat at 112 and left 56 from 161 which he pinned to hold and go one away from the win. Huybrechts finally got on the board with a 52 checkout to go 5-1 down. Wade though pinned double 10 to move through and ease into the final session.
