Aspinall on anchoring new generation in darts: “I don’t think it’ll be long before us young lads are dominating”

Nathan Aspinall continued his Premier League brilliance with victory over Peter Wright to end Night Ten.

Aspinall sits top of the table ahead of Michael Van Gerwen and for ‘The Asp’, he sees him and Dimitri Van den Bergh towards the top as showing the new generation of darts.

“Me and Dimi (Van den Bergh) talk about it quite a lot. Six or seven years ago, me and Dimi were on the youth tour (with) Keegan Brown, Josh Payne, Michael Smith. You can say Van Gerwen but he’s done what he’s done,” said Aspinall post match.

“Us lads were on the Youth Tour together now we’re trying to fly the flag for the PDC. It’s amazing for us guys but it’s also amazing for the sport of darts.

“People think darts is still about the old guys. They say I don’t look like a dart player. Darts is changing. There’s a lot of money to be won.”

“I don’t think it’ll be long before us young lads are dominating. That’s you want, you want progression in sport. It’s exciting and I’m glad to be part of it.”
