Nathan Aspinall is through to the semi-finals of the
Grand Slam of Darts for the first time after sealing a hard fought win over Alan Soutar and ending the superb run of the Scot 16-12.
Aspinall could now face Michael van Gerwen in a repeat of the World Grand Prix final for a spot in the final, he faces Luke Humphries next but it was a game which saw 'The Asp' always in front but Soutar kept showing grit to keep reducing the deficit until the end.
To begin the tie, Aspinall sealed a 2-0 lead but missed five darts at doubles and this allowed Soutar to get off the mark but 'The Asp' surged ahead from there.
He opened up a 4-1 lead at the interval and followed it up with a 180 and a 107 checkout at 5-2 but that lead was cut to only one at the next interval at 6-4.
Soutar cut that lead to only one at 7-6 behind but Aspinall edged away again with another surge started with a 142 checkout to break at 9-7. This was extended to 12-7 with another break and hold.
Soutar stopped the rot at 14-11 behind but missed pivotal doubles at the wrong time and handed Aspinall the chance to go one away at 15-11. He missed two match darts and Soutar survived though but this was short lived as a 13-darter on double 20 sealed it for Aspinall.
