Fresh off reaching the final of the World Grand Prix,
Nathan Aspinall nearly was dumped out with ease at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy but came back to down Vincent van der Voort as the afternoon session concludes.
Van der Voort was 5-0 up and was seemingly cruising to victory but Aspinall weathered the storm surviving seven match darts also en route to victory with Dirk van Duijvenbode now awaiting in the second round.
'The Dutch Destroyer' is confirmed though for the European Championship despite likely feeling aggrieved to let such a huge lead slip while for 'The Asp', it could be an early scare that gleams a good run.
While
Damon Heta is also in the Last 16 after seeing off Chris Dobey in a 6-4 win which saw 'The Heat' bust a 180 when he was 5-3 up.
But despite Dobey sealing a break in the requisite leg after Heta couldn't get a dart at 100, it was another break to win the match for the Aussie who pounced on multiple missed darts at a double to send it all the way and he hit double eight last dart in hand. He will next face Joe Cullen or Ritchie Edhouse.
