The
Australian Darts Masters is due to take place between 21 and 22 August at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong. The
prize money is set ahead of the final normal
World Series of Darts tournament of the year, with the Finals coming up next month in Amsterdam.
Gian van Veen leads the field, but he does not lead the
Order of Merit;
Michael van Gerwen, the
champion in Bahrain and Copenhagen, does. Albeit MVG,
Luke Littler, and
Luke Humphries aren't playing in either Australia or New Zealand. MVG next plays in the World Series in Amsterdam, defending his Finals title.
As well as Van Veen, Jonny Clayton leads the way after his brilliant run at the New Zealand Darts Masters, which saw the Welshman scoop the title, defeating another leading light this week,
Gerwyn Price. Also involved are Stephen Bunting, James Wade, Josh Rock, Damon Heta, and Ross Smith.
Adam Leek, Simon Whitlock, Ben Robb, Raymond Smith, Brody Klinge, Tim Pusey, Joe Comito, and Mal Cuming take part in Wollongong as part of the qualifier field.
How much is on offer for winning the Australian Darts Masters?
While the Prize Money for the World Series of Darts Finals has increased from £400,000 to £450,000 for this next season, this is not the case for the main events in the year. The winner will claim £30,000 for sealing the title, while it will be £16,000 for the runner-up. Semi-finalists receive £10,000. While the Quarter-Finals, also known as the second round, are £5,000.
First-round losers receive £1,750. Order of Merit points-wise, these go towards the World Series of Darts Finals, which will take place in Amsterdam in November. Unlike Saudi Arabia, which had the nine-dart bonus and also the Riyadh Season Bullseye, the further events do not have that.
