Amid a lot of hype surrounding
Beau Greaves before the tournament began and rightfully so given her superb 2022, this was dealt with superbly by
William O'Connor who produced the display of the PDC
World Darts Championship so far in a straight sets win over the 18-year-old sensation.
O'Connor hit a 94 average, three 180's and a high checkout of 107 against Greaves who despite the scoreline played her part in a superb display to end a year which has seen her dominate the end of the Women's Series, win the WDF World Championship and establish herself as a true force.
But now 'The Magpie' will face Gabriel Clemens in the second round with a big chance awaiting.
Greaves started superbly with a 140 and 120 checkout to hold throw. She hit her first 180 but O’Connor hit double 16 to make it 1-1.
O’Connor hit a timely 180 to leave 82 and he pinned it to break for 2-1. Greaves missed double 20 for a 78 and O’Connor returned only to miss double nine on the wire for 93.
She chased around the board though and O’Connor returned only for Greaves to get the chance to hold again which she sealed on double two at 2-2.
Greaves missed 105 for the set and O’Connor took it on double five. Greaves began the second set with a superb 122 checkout on double seven to break.
She missed 144 to go 2-0 up but returned for double three. She missed 161 on the bull for the set and O’Connor held on double 12.
O’Connor hit 171 to leave 88 and he laid up instead of going for it with Greaves on 156 and he hit double eight for 2-2.
He missed 133 for the set but Greaves couldn’t go for 101 and ‘The Magpie’ made it 2-0 in sets. A 107 checkout from O’Connor saw him break and he hit double four to go one away.
