The Belgian Cup Final in Brussels between Antwerp and Royale Union ended in senseless violence for the Belgian darts player Kim Huybrechts on Thursday evening, 9 May.
As could already be read sporadically on social media, what was supposed to be a fun evening filled with football between two of the oldest football clubs in Belgium ended in a nightmare for Kim Huybrechts.
After Antwerp, of which Huybrechts is an ardent supporter, lost 1-0 to Brussels' tradition club Royale Union, things got out of hand on the way home in a Brussels park. Huybrechts, along with many more Antwerp fans, was walking to the bus in disappointment when they were suddenly confronted and provoked by a large group of Brussels youths (unrelated to Union). Antwerp fans had no choice but to try to step through the aggressive crowd to reach their supporters' buses. In an opening of the park fence, Huybrechts tried to bypass the hot-tempered youths towards the bus. There things turned to the worst as he was attacked from behind and thrown to the ground.
Lying helplessly surrounded on the ground, Huybrechts received raging punches and blows unfortunately also on his right arm. He was in such a bad shape after the heavy incident that he had to be taken to hospital. The verdict there was rock hard for the flamboyant Kim Huybrechts.. double collarbone fracture on the right shoulder. Very unfortunate also for the Belgian top dart player is the fact that this was his right arm, which happens to be his throwing arm.
Kim Huybrechts will therefore be out for a long time as he undergoes surgery at the time of publication of this article. What was supposed to be a football party with friends out ended in a complete personal catastrophe for Kim.
