Last week, the first tournaments of the new season of the Dart Players Australia ProTour were played. Brenton Lloyd secured qualification for the 2024 Australian Darts Masters by winning the first tournament.
On February 10 and 11, the first three tournaments of the DPA ProTour 2024 were played in Warilla. Brenton Lloyd managed to earn the most prize money of all participants over the weekend, qualifying him for the Australian Darts Masters 2024 in August. Following his TV debut at the New South Wales Darts Masters last year, this will be his second participation in a World Series tournament.
Lloyd won the first tournament of the weekend on Saturday. In the semifinals, he defeated former World Championship contender Mal Cuming and then went on to beat Harley Kemp 6-5 in the final. The highest average on the first tournament of the new ProTour season was thrown by Brody Klinge with an average of 110.51.
The second tournament of the weekend won by Brandon Weering. The 25-year-old Australian took the title with a 6-4 victory over Robert Modra in the final. The third tournament of the weekend was played on Sunday. Lloyd again reached the final, but was defeated 3-1 in sets by former Tour Card holder Gordon Mathers. Despite his defeat in the final, Lloyd grabbed sufficient prize money with his final place to secure entry to the World Series tournament in Wollongong.
In April, the next three tournaments of the DPA ProTour 2024 will be played in Victoria. Here it will be determined which player next to Lloyd qualifies for the Australian Darts Masters 2024. In addition, these tournaments are important leading up to the World Championship race. The player who tops the ranking at the end of the DPA ProTour season may travel to the Alexandra Palace in December.
