Boris Krcmar as an eight time soft tip World Champion is looking to translate his success in that discipline over to steel tip but despite superb displays in the past, he has yet to do so. But now has a big chance at the PDC
World Darts Championship.
Krcmar came from a set down to stun Dirk van Duijvenbode, the 12th seed with an accomplished display featuring a 96.8 average, three 180's and 55% on the doubles from the big Croatian who will return after Christmas. For Van Duijvenbode, it is more misery after recent shoulder issues.
Van Duijvenbode has been dealing with his problems by wearing a corset and any different manner of techniques and it looked to be working as he blasted the opening set 3-1 with a 108 average and a high checkout of 124. But back came Krcmar to take it in three straight legs to level the contest.
Van Duijvenbode's shoulder problems seemed to get worse as the match wore on and he even had a battle not only with the pain barrier but the infamous Ally Pally wasp. But of course he also had a big Croatian wall in his way in Krcmar who defied two 180's in the third set to convert and go in front 2-1 with a 97.5 average and 53% on the doubles which was around his standard throughout the contest.
An 82 and 102 checkout back-to-back with the latter for a 12-darter saw Krcmar seal the win and after losing many a time on the big stage while producing superb displays, he can look to post Christmas and the chance for a statement run at the Alexandra Palace.
