2024 PDC World Darts Championship prize money breakdown: £2,500,000 on offer for Ally Pally spectacle

As with the past five editions, as much as £2.5 million in prize money will be divided among the 96 participants at the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship. That amount is almost forty times higher than at the very first edition of the PDC World Darts Championship in 1994. Back then, the prize fund consisted of £64,000.

Since then, the prize fund has steadily increased. In 1999, more than a ton of prize money was distributed at the World Darts Championship for the first time. During the 2010 edition, the barrier of one million pounds of prize money was settled for the first time and since the 2019 World Darts Championship, the prize fund now contains 2.5 million pounds of prize money.

The 64 participants to start in the first round of the World Darts Championship will receive £7500 in prize money anyway. The top-32 of the placement list are guaranteed 15,000 pounds. These players will enter the World Darts Championship from the second round.

Whoever is through to the second round will receive £25,000 in prize money anyway. After the Christmas break, the prize money goes up considerably. A place in the last sixteen already earns £35,000 and for the quarter-finalists there is £50,000 waiting.

For the semifinalists, the prize money won enters the six figures. The players in the final four can add 100,000 pounds to the world rankings. As much as 700,000 pounds in prize money will be distributed in the final. The runner-up will receive a £200,000 check, while the world champion will go home with half a million pounds in prize money.

The prize money won counts toward the PDC Order of Merit. This ranking is considered the world ranking at the PDC. The ranking is based on players' performances over a 104-week period. Winning the world title is usually good for a solid position in the top four of the world rankings, or even above. Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries are in any case assured of the first place in the world rankings after the World Darts Championship when winning the world title.
