The opening round continues at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy with
Stephen Bunting,
Rowby-John Rodriguez and
Ryan Joyce moving into the final day.
Bunting was facing Daryl Gurney in a tie seen by many as the one to watch this session and it certainly delivered for 'The Bullet' as he produced a superb 105.31 average to down 'Superchin' 6-3 which featured four 180's, a high checkout of 121 and 60% on the doubles.
Breaking immediately, Bunting was then broke back with an 86 checkout for an 11-darter by Gurney who followed it up with an 82 checkout using the bull but the turning point for Bunting came going 4-3 up as he pinned a 121 checkout on the bull to break.
From there, he held and saw out the match on double six to bookend a superb win. Now he faces Jonny Clayton tomorrow.
Rodriguez joined his brother, Rusty-Jake in the second round with a clinical win over Keane Barry to begin the session.
Finalising it with a 10-darter on double 16, the Austrian ace who has had to miss part of the
European Tour for personal reasons will look to reignite his form. He now faces Jose de Sousa after a 6-3 win.
While Joyce saw off the ever popular character on the Rock in Dyson Parody who got some celebrations in during the tie but again failed to reproduce his 2016 heroics.
It was a hard fought 6-4 success in the end for 'Relentless' who averaged 85 and edged the doubles which sealed him the tie hitting 6/19 compared to 4/16. Next up is Danny Noppert.
