Josh Rock,
Chris Dobey and
Vincent van der Voort are the latest trio through to the second round at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy with only two games to go to decide the line-up for tomorrow's action.
Rock dominated his tie against Ryan Meikle for the most part but was dragged into a battle before finally getting over the line to set up a clash with Michael Smith.
He went 3-1 and 4-2 up but Meikle continued to battle back with a 104 checkout followed by a break after Rock had missed darts to go one away.
Rock broke back with a 66 checkout before finally sealing it on double 20 after Meikle had missed the same target for a 120 checkout to save the tie.
For Van der Voort, he made big strides towards confirming his spot at the European Championship after seeing off Martin Schindler 6-3.
After missing multiple darts to hold, Schindler succumbed to a 4-2 deficit against Van der Voort after it mainly going with throw and he held from there on double 16. Missing match darts, 'The Dutch Destroyer' saw that cut to 5-3 and he had to serve it out.
Schindler pressured with a 180 in the latter part of the leg but double 10 was pinned to seal his spot in the next round. There he will play Nathan Aspinall.
While Dobey eased past Dylan Duo Jnr, son of the darts player with the same name from Gibraltar who adorned the stage during this tournament many times.
A footballer like Sean Negrette and Craig Galliano, he certainly showed his pace with a super rapid throw but lost out 6-1 with the debutant averaging just 66 in the end compared to a solid display from 'Hollywood' fresh off a run to the latter stages of the World Grand Prix.
