Last weekend the Budapest hosted the 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy. For Callan Rydz, however, this eleventh tournament of the European Tour 2024 ended in a big disappointment. The 26-year-old Englishman went down 6-5 in the opening round against Florian Hempel.
What makes the defeat extra painful is that Rydz gave away a 5-2 lead. After his defeat, he quickly ran off the stage. The former winner of three Players Championships is experiencing a particularly difficult year in 2024, as he has fallen to 38th place in the world rankings. At the UK Open, he lost in the third round. The only good news is that he is currently eleventh on the Pro Tour Order of Merit and is thus almost certain to qualify for the upcoming World Darts Championship.
Afterwards, Rydz took to social media for an emotional plea. "Bah it's a lonely fucking place but fuck me, when you lose, the shit you get is not good for anyone" he wrote.

Rydz also faced frequent negative comments on social media in recent months. "Am just trying to make a living an not sure it's worth bothering fighting for anymore..." Rydz continued. "If you have my number and need me, text me. I won't be on social media for a long time."
Despite his negative feelings, 'The Riot' already gets another chance today and tomorrow, as Players Championships 22 and 23 will be finished in Leicester.
