The opening session of the 2024
German Darts Grand Prix continues to motor on in Munich this Saturday afternoon with
Jermaine Wattimena,
Cameron Menzies and
Jeffrey de Zwaan all reaching round 2.
For Wattimena, a potentially tricky tie against home crowd favourite Franz Roetzsch was skillfully navigated. Despite the crowd getting on the Dutchman's back, he very impressively dismantled his opponent to take a dominant 6-0 win, before somewhat questionably lashing out at the Munich crowd in his on-stage, post-match interview.
Next up was a real barn burner between Cameron Menzies and Mike De Decker. Both players have been in good form of late and continued to impress in this one. With the contest nip and tuck, De Decker narrowly missed double 12 for a nine-darter in leg 2 although he returned to mop up for a 10-darter. It was the Scot who took control from there though, and with the score 5-4 in his favour, he went six perfect darts himself. Although the perfect leg eluded him, Menzies returned to secure the 6-4 win.
Another of the local challengers, Matthias Ehlers was up in the next match. Although he fared better than Roetzsch earlier, firing in finishes of 145 and 102 in successive legs, to lead 5-4, Jeffrey de Zwaan eventually prevailed 6-5.
