Glamour, big names, and plenty of darts entertainment: On 01/04/2026, the Promi Darts World Championship, the usual exhibition that follows Ally Pally took place for the eighth time. It was won by Michael van Gerwen alongside Joey Kelly.
Six teams, two groups – and plenty of standout moments
The field featured a varied mix of international darts stars and celebrity partners. Lining up were Gian van Veen with influencer Cathy Hummels, Michael van Gerwen with musician and extreme athlete Joey Kelly, Stephen Bunting with football legend Ailton, Martin Schindler with cult manager Reiner Calmund, Luke Humphries with presenter Gülcan Kamps, and Nathan Aspinall with TV chef Alexander Kumptner.
In Group A, Luke Humphries and Gülcan Kamps impressed with strong form. Two 2-1 wins over the teams of Michael van Gerwen / Joey Kelly and Martin Schindler / Reiner Calmund sealed top spot. Humphries delivered a sporting highlight against van Gerwen, checking out 120 via tops–tops–tops to win the match. The decisive push to first place, however, came from Kamps herself: with a hit on single 8 – celebrities were again allowed to check out via single out – she clinched the win over Schindler and Calmund.
Van Veen bounces back – Hummels brings the house down
Group B centered around Gian van Veen. Just one day
after his heavy 1-7 defeat in the World Championship final, the Dutchman produced a strong response and, alongside Cathy Hummels, won the group. Two narrow 2-1 victories over the teams of Nathan Aspinall and Stephen Bunting were enough.
The serious side of sport was repeatedly lightened by humorous moments. Van Veen was the first player of the evening to hit a 180, but the caller announced “No Score” – with 175 remaining he had simply overthrown. The celebrities also made their mark on the oche: Hummels checked out on single 12 in the opening game against Aspinall, and later in the decisive clash with Bunting and Ailton she sent the Maritim Hotel in Bonn into raptures. After Ailton had previously checked out on single 14 and van Veen / Hummels had leveled, Hummels took out 40 with her first dart on tops to secure the group win.
Clear second-chance round, straightforward semi-finals
In the second-chance round, Michael van Gerwen / Joey Kelly, Stephen Bunting / Ailton, Nathan Aspinall / Alexander Kumptner, and Martin Schindler / Reiner Calmund battled for the final semi-final spots. The outcomes were emphatic: van Gerwen and Kelly beat Bunting and Ailton 2-0, followed shortly by another 2-0 as Aspinall and Kumptner defeated Schindler and Calmund.
The semi-finals produced a rematch between Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries. This time the Dutchman held his nerve, winning 2-0 with Joey Kelly to reach the final. The second semi ended just as decisively – Aspinall and Kumptner gave van Veen and Hummels no chance in a 2-0 win.
Joey Kelly settles the final – van Gerwen celebrates title number four
The grand final offered Michael van Gerwen the chance to claim a fourth Promi-Darts title, while Nathan Aspinall chased his first. Aspinall initially put his team ahead, before Joey Kelly coolly leveled on double 16. After van Gerwen and Kelly moved 2-1 up, it was the extreme athlete who delivered the crowning moment: a 20 checkout to seal the title, pure emotion, and unbridled celebrations.
