David Davies will make his debut at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off WDF World Champion, Shane McGuirk in the final of the UK and Ireland qualifier on Saturday open to both Tour Card Holders and any players who are associate members.
Perhaps disappointing given the opportunity on offer but only 73 players entered into the tournament which was likely down to the £90 entry fee for the event. But Davies won't be complaining and could be a real danger when he makes his big stage bow.
Davies has experience playing on the MODUS Super Series and won the cut-throat News of the World type format, the Red Dragon Champion of Champions earlier this season as well as a maiden Challenge Tour title. He saw off McGuirk in the final 7-4 with a 97 average.
A sigh of relief too no doubt as McGuirk qualifying would've meant that both WDF World Champions would not defend their crowns as Beau Greaves won't defend the women's title. But McGuirk even playing shows that in reality he would've picked Ally Pally.
Davies saw off Carl Wilson, Henry Coates, Tommy Morris, Steve West and Jarred Cole with familiar faces including Adrian Gray, Steve Hine, Colin Osborne, Robert Thornton and Andy Hamilton among those involved over the course of the tournament. But it is the Welshman who will make his debut in December at the Ally Pally, good pedigree that he will hope will show on his debut.
