After a busy September in which especially the Euro Tour season came to an end, October is mainly marked by the conclusion of several other Tours. In this article you will find a description of all PDC tournaments in the month of September.
This month is dominated by the World Grand Prix and the European Darts Championship. In addition, the last Players Championship tournaments are scheduled and the Development Tour, Women's Series and Challenge Tour, among others, are coming to an end, with which lower-ranked players can secure their Tour Card or participation in the PDC World Darts Championship.

Oct. 1-2: Players Championship 29-30

The month of October kicks off immediately with two Players Championship tournaments at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, with £125,000 in prize money being divided among the participants in each event. For some big names including, Van Gerwen, Littler, Aspinall and Humphries there is plenty at stake in the final tournaments. All are balancing on the edge, or well below to qualify for the Players Championship Finals later in November.
By default, a Players Championship tournament has 128 participants. In principle, these are the 128 players who hold a PDC Tour Card. If a Tour Card holder does not register or withdraws at the last minute, the vacant places are filled with the best ranked players from the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

Oct. 6-12: World Grand Prix

Then, from October 6 to 12, the first major of this month is scheduled. With a total prize pool of £600,000, this is the chance for players to move up on the overall PDC Order of Merit. In addition, it is the start of a series of major tournaments, with which we can immediately see who is in shape towards the Grand Slam of Darts and the Darts World Cup.
The World Grand Prix is a unique tournament on the PDC calendar because it is played according to the double-in double-out principle. This means that players must not only end legs with a double, but also start them with it.
Another special aspect of this event is that it is played in sets. In the first round, there is an ultra-short format of best of 3 sets. This eventually progresses to best of 11 sets for the final.
Last year, Mike De Decker surprisingly won the tournament. 'Real Deal' successively defeated Damon Heta (2-1), Gary Anderson (3-0), James Wade (3-0) and Dimitri van den Bergh (5-2) before facing Luke Humphries in the final. In that final, he led 4-1 in sets, but then saw the Englishman come back to 4-4. However, the final two sets went to the Belgian again, securing his first major major title.

Oct. 11-12: Development Tour 21-24

On October 11 and 12, the last 4 tournaments of the Development Tour are scheduled. These tournaments are crucial with a view to the Darts World Cup and capturing a Tour Card.
The two highest ranked players on the Order of Merit will secure a Tour Card. Cam Crabtree is currently in first place with 14,975 pounds. However, the Englishman is already in possession of a Tour Card, moving up to Nos. 2 and 3. Currently standing there are Beau Greaves (13,100 pounds) and Owen Bates (10,075 pounds). However, they feel the hot breath of Jurjen van der Velde (8,775 pounds) and Charlie Manby (8,625 pounds) on their necks.
The top three ranked players also qualify for the Darts World Cup. Crabtree and Owen Bates, who is in third place, are already assured of a World Championship ticket. As a result, Greaves, Van der Velde and Manby are also virtually assured of World Championship participation at the time of writing. Finally, the No. 1 also automatically qualifies for the Grand Slam of Darts in November.

October 13: first rounds PDC World Youth Championship

Oct. 13, the first matches of the PDC World Youth Championship will be finished. The tournament is open to players between the ages of 16 and 24. All matches up to the semifinals will be played this Monday, after which the finalists will be known at the end of the day. The final will then be played during the Players Championship Finals. Between the semifinals and finals, space has been set aside for the youth final, which will be played on the main stage and will also be broadcast live.

Oct. 14-15: Players Championship 31-32

On Oct. 14 and 15, the next two Players Championship tournaments are on the calendar. Held at the Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan, players will once again have the chance to work their way into the top 64 of the Players Championship Order of Merit to secure entry into the final tournament.

Oct. 17-19: German Darts Championship

Then, on the weekend of Oct. 17, the final European Tour tournament awaits. This is the last chance for players to qualify for the European Darts Championship.
Big names like Van Barneveld, Wattimena, Cross, Gilding and Ratajski are currently just above the line but still have to watch the names behind them. For names like Chisnall, Cullen and O'Connor, who are just below the line, this tournament in Hildesheim is the last chance to still work their way into the top 32.

Oct. 18-19: Women's Series 21-24

That same weekend, the PDC Women's Series comes to a close with the final four tournaments in Wigan. Beau Greaves is well in the lead here with 29,600 pounds earned. Fallon Sherrock is a street length behind the young Brit with 11,900 pounds, but is assured participation in the World Darts Championship.
In fact, the top three on the Women's Series Order of Merit qualify for the prestigious final tournament at the Alexandra Palace. With Greaves already qualifying through the Development Tour, Sherrock is guaranteed participation as No. 2 due to her space advantage over names behind her. Number 3 Lisa Ashton managed to win the Women's World Matchplay earlier this year, so she too is already assured of participation.
As a result, currently Noa-Lynn van Leuven and Gemma Hayter, as No. 4 and 5, are also virtually on participation in the Worlds. Only Kirsi Viinikainen and Robyn Byrne, who are in spots 6 and 7 seem likely to be able to overtake them. Beau Greaves, however, as number 1, also qualifies directly for the Grand Slam of Darts.

Oct. 23-26: European Darts Championships

From October 23 to 26, it is time for the second major of this month. The top 32 on the European Tour Order of Merit will take on each other at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund for the title and a total prize pool of 600,000 pounds.
The field of participants at this tournament consists of 32 players who have all qualified over 14 Euro Tour tournaments played.
Last year, Ritchie Edhouse managed to surprise by taking the tournament to his name. On his way to the final he eliminated the likes of Gian van Veen (6-1), Michael Smith (10-9), Gary Anderson (10-5) and Luke Woodhouse (11-5) before facing the other surprising finalist Jermaine Wattimena in the final. In the final, however, Edhouse faced little opposition from the Dutchman and managed to take his first major title with a convincing 11-3 win.
Edhouse surprised everyone in 2024 by winning the European Darts Championship in his name.

Oct. 25-26: Challenge Tour 21-24

On the same weekend, the Challenge Tour will be decided. On Oct. 25 and 26, the last four tournaments are scheduled and the final Tour tickets and World Cup tickets will be distributed.
Darius Labanauskas is well on top here with 9,700 pounds and seems assured of capturing his Tour Card. Behind that, however, things are still exciting. Stefan Bellmont is currently in second place with 8,150 pounds, but is being chased by Ted Evetts (7,775 pounds), Jamai van den Herik (7,175 pounds) and Mervyn King (7,025 pounds). These four names look set to battle it out during these final four tournaments to see who will take the second Tour Card.
Also on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, the top three automatically qualify for the World Darts Championship. Labanauskas is already assured participation, which means that at the moment Bellmont, Evetts and Van den Herik can take into account a visit to Ally Pally. Again, Mervyn King, and possibly Jack Tweddel, who is ranked 6,400 in spot 6, are still serious contenders to qualify for the Worlds in this final Challenge Tour weekend.

Oct. 29-30: Players Championship 33-34

The final two Players Championship tournaments are scheduled for October 29 and 30. This is the last chance for players to qualify for the Players Championship Finals. For those who are still outside the top 64 on the Players Championship Order of Merit before these two days, there is no other option. They must perform these two days if they want to attend the prestigious major tournament in November.

Oct. 31: Grand Slam of Darts Tour Card Holder Qualifier

On the last day of October, the Grand Slam of Darts Tour Card Holder Qualifier is on the calendar. This is the last chance for players holding a PDC Tour Card to still qualify for the final tournament. The top eight players on this day may prepare to compete in the event at the WV Active Aldersley in Wolverhampton later in November. Shortly after this qualifying tournament, the draw will follow and the schedule of play for the major tournament will be announced.
