Dave Chisnall is through to the semi-finals of the 2020/21 PDC
World Darts Championship after an incredible 5-0 whitewash win over Michael van Gerwen.
Chisnall hasn't defeated Van Gerwen in a TV major for 2,639 days (5th February 2016) but produced a supreme display to dump out the World Number One who won't be winning a fourth World title.
This included 14 180's, a 48% double percentage with checkouts of 141, 130 and 114.
A poor start from Chisnall allowed Van Gerwen an early break.
It was 92 after nine for Van Gerwen but he failed to take it out and with
Chisnall sat on 46, he took it out on double 18.
A brilliant 141 saw Chisnall hold throw and go 2-1 up. It
was a fourth 180 for Chisnall and he pinned a 95 checkout to go ahead with a
112 average.
Van Gerwen missed a 151 on double 20 but Chisnall missed
double 18 on 106. MVG made it 1/6 though and Chisnall broke.
A 136 left 40 for Chisnall to go 2-0 up. Van Gerwen left 170
after nine darts but was getting outplayed. Chisnall missed two at double 20 to
claim the set and Van Gerwen pinned double 19 to stop the rot.
Chisnall left 56 but Van Gerwen was on 170 which he missed
on the bull to break. The St Helens ace missed two more darts for the set and
Van Gerwen pinned a 25 checkout to break and make it 2-2.
Chisnall aimed to diminish Van Gerwen by kicking off with a
180. They were both on 124 with huge moments incoming.
Chisnall made it five darts missed for the set with an
effort at the bull. But Van Gerwen didn’t get a shot and Chisnall pinned a 35
checkout to go 2-0 up.
Chisnall continued his brilliance as Van Gerwen was sat on
double four and the former took out 114 to hold throw. It was another dominant
leg for Chisnall as he went one away for a 3-0 lead.
He missed two for the set and Van Gerwen punished with a 150
checkout. Chisnall missed double five for the set and Van Gerwen drew it level.
An 86 checkout saw Chisnall go 3-0 up. Chisnall missed
double 12 for a nine-darter and watched MVG hit 141 on double 12 just for fun
but he returned to claim a 4-0 lead to close out the set and continue his
procession.
A 130 checkout saw Chisnall go 1-0 up with a hold of throw.
He couldn’t get a shot at 87 and Van Gerwen held throw.
He did next time around and hit double eight to go one away
from the victory. He pinned an incredible 80 finishing on double 20 to claim a
stunning victory.
