Dirk van Duijvenbode hated it after his elimination at the
World Darts Championship. With tears in his eyes, he appeared in front of the camera of RTL 7 after his defeat against Gary Anderson (5-1).
The Dutchman started the game energetically by taking the first set from Anderson. After misses in the second set, however, the game quickly turned to the Scot.
"I was distracted by external factors and couldn't get that out of my system." Which factors? I'm not going to answer that. It had nothing to do with my opponent. It's my own defect and I'm not going to tell you what that is, '' he responded to the questioning of reporter Arjan van der Giessen.
Van Duijvenbode tried to establish himself afterwards, but that did not work. "At one point it didn't work at all. If I make it 2-0, it will just be a big win for me - I'm sure. Now I'm here after the biggest game of my life."
In addition to the disappointment due to the elimination, there was also soon room for a feeling of pride in the 28-year-old Dutchman.
"I played a great World Championship. My minimum goal of the quarter-final and my real goal of the semi-final. Personally, I felt good too and then it can just happen that you lose. He (Anderson) played well and threw much better than in the previous rounds. I can not make more of it. I did not show up. Nothing more to say."
