Chris Dobey made an excellent start to the
World Darts Championship. 'Hollywood' defeated William O'Connor 3-2 in a thrilling round 2 encounter.
In a high-level match, Dobey, who averaged 103, finally managed to overcome the battling O'Connor. "I'm just happy to get the win. Averages don't matter but yeah, to hear I had an average like that, it must have been a real solid performance."
A strong World Championship performance could also ensure Dobey is invited back to the Premier League, having made his debut in the competition earlier this year. 'Hollywood' believes his upward trajectory can be cited back to his run at last year's World Darts Championship. "I think that was the start of it all. Before I won the Masters, I think finally breaking that duck after so many last 16 defeats here, that's gave me the confidence and experience I needed to to kick on and hopefully I can better my quarterfinals from last year."
Dobey will take on Ross Smith in the third round. "He's a great player, another major winner, but I'll be gunning for a bit of revenge because he beat me in that semi-final when he went on to lift the European Championship. So yeah, I'm expecting another hard fought battle."
